What Are Cataracts surgery?

If you’re over 60 and your eyesight has became blurred or cloudy, you may have cataract. It’s a common condition in older adults.

Causes of Cataracts:

When protein builds up in the lens of eye and makes it cloudy. It prevents to pass through the lens clearly. It causes loss of some of your eyesight.

Types of cataract:

There are different types of cataracts. They include:
•Age-related cataract.
•Congenital cataract- In this babies are born with cataracts. causes may by infection, injury, or poor development in the womb. Or, cataract can form in childhood.
•Secondary cataract - are result of other medical conditions, like diabetes.
•Traumatic cataract- after an injury to the eye.

Cigarette smoke, air pollution, and heavy drinking are also some of causes of cataract.

Symptoms of cataract:

Cataracts usually form slowly. You may not know it, until it start to block light.
Then you might notice:
• Blurred or foggy(cloudy) vision
• Colours seem faded
• Difficulty in driving at night as lights may appear too bright (poor night vision).
• A halo may appear around light or sun.
• Double vision in the affected eye
• Difficult vision even with regular eyeglasses or contact lenses.
• Frequent change in eyeglass no.

Diagnosed of cataract:
1. Remember to bring your glasses or contacts
2. Visual acuity test.
3. Dilated eye exam- To examine retina and optic nerve for signs of damage and other eye problems.
4. Tonometry- to measure pressure in eye.
These are some tests for diagnosis of cataract.

What’s the Treatment?

Cataract surgery is the only effective treatment for cataract. Cataract surgery can be performed only on fully developed cataract.
But before going for cataract surgery, we can try new eyeglasses, brighter lighting, anti-glare sunglasses, or magnifying lenses to improve early symptoms of cataract. If these measures do not help, cataract surgery is the only effective treatment.

Cataract surgery involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with an artificial lens.
A cataract needs to be removed only when vision loss interferes with your everyday activities, such as driving, reading, or watching TV.

Cataract surgery is one of the most common , safe and effective surgery. In about 90 percent of cases, people who have cataract surgery have better vision afterward.
